Rafting

Gentle rafting on the rivers of the Punakha valley, with views of Punakha Dzong from the water.

Overview

The Mo Chhu and Pho Chhu, the two rivers that meet at Punakha Dzong, offer the best-known rafting in Bhutan. A float on the Mo Chhu is suitable for beginners and families, passing rice fields, villages and finally the dzong itself.

The Pho Chhu has larger rapids and is suited to experienced rafters.

What to expect

Trips on the Mo Chhu take around one and a half hours on the water, with trained river guides and safety equipment. You may spot kingfishers and other river birds along the way.
