Overview
Trashigang is the hub of eastern Bhutan, a market town where people from the surrounding valleys come to trade. Trashigang Dzong, built in 1659 to defend against invasions from Tibet, stands on a spur high above the Drangme Chhu.
Around the town are some of the most distinctive communities in the country: the weavers of Radhi, known for bura raw-silk textiles, and the Brokpa herders of Merak and Sakteng in the far east of the district.
