Do I need a visa for Bhutan?
Yes, unless you are a citizen of India, Bangladesh or the Maldives. Every other visitor needs a visa, issued before you travel. Citizens of India, Bangladesh and the Maldives receive a permit instead; see our guide to entry requirements.
How much does a Bhutan visa cost?
The visa application fee is USD 40 per person. It is paid once and is not refundable. Separately, every visitor pays the Sustainable Development Fee for each night in Bhutan.

How do I apply?
You can apply online through the Department of Immigration’s portal, or your tour operator or hotel can apply on your behalf. You will need:
- A digital copy of your passport
- A recent digital passport photo
- Your arrival and departure dates
- Payment for the visa fee and the Sustainable Development Fee

How long does approval take?
Applications are reviewed within five working days. Apply well before your flight: seats on flights to Paro are limited and are often booked early.
How long should my passport be valid?
Your passport should be valid for at least six months from the date you arrive in Bhutan.
