What is the Sustainable Development Fee?
The Sustainable Development Fee, or SDF, is a daily fee that visitors pay to the Royal Government of Bhutan. It supports the country’s sustainable development: protecting its environment, culture and heritage, and funding public services. It is central to Bhutan’s approach of high-value, low-volume tourism.
How much is the SDF?
- Adults: USD 100 per person per night
- Children aged 6 to 12: USD 50 per night (a 50% concession)
- Children under 6: exempt
- Indian nationals: INR 1,200 per person per night
The USD 100 rate has applied since 1 September 2023 and is confirmed until 31 August 2027. Nationals of Bangladesh and the Maldives also pay the SDF; ask us for the current rate.
Is the SDF included in your price?
Yes. Our regular price of USD 300 per person per night includes the SDF, along with your hotel, meals, transport, licensed guide and Bhutan visa fee. See travel costs for the full breakdown.
What happens after August 2027?
The government may review the rate after 31 August 2027. We will update this page as soon as any change is announced, and we always confirm the rate that applies to your dates when you book.

Is there a discount for groups?
Yes. Groups of more than 8 travellers receive 10% off the regular price.
What does the price include?
The regular price includes hotel accommodation, all meals, transportation within Bhutan, a licensed Bhutanese tour guide, the Bhutan visa fee and the Sustainable Development Fee (SDF).
It does not include entrance fees for monuments and sacred sites, international or domestic airfare, international travel insurance, or personal and entertainment expenses.
