Local Experiences

Small, everyday moments that make a journey: a farmhouse visit, a village market, a cooking lesson or a walk with local people.

Overview

Some of the best memories of Bhutan come from ordinary moments. A cup of butter tea in a farmhouse kitchen, a morning at the vegetable market, or a walk with villagers to a hilltop temple can say more about the country than any monument.

What to expect

Ideas we can include: a farmhouse visit with butter tea, a walk through the weekend market in Thimphu, a visit to a weaving workshop, hanging prayer flags on a mountain pass, or trying on the national dress.

If you stay in a farmhouse, your hosts will often invite you to join in daily work: picking fresh vegetables, milking the cows, planting in the fields or helping to cook a Bhutanese meal. What you can join depends on the season, the family and the time of day, so every stay is different.
