Buying a local SIM at Paro airport, eSIM options, mobile coverage and Wi-Fi in Bhutan.
Local SIM cards
Bhutan has two mobile networks, B-Mobile and TashiCell. Both have counters at Paro International Airport, where you can buy a prepaid SIM with data on arrival. Bring your passport.
eSIM
If your phone supports eSIM, you can also buy a data plan for Bhutan before you travel from an international eSIM provider.
Coverage
Mobile data works well in towns such as Paro, Thimphu and Punakha. Coverage becomes patchy on mountain roads and in remote valleys, and on most treks there is little or no signal. B-Mobile generally has the wider coverage in rural areas.
Wi-Fi
Most hotels offer Wi-Fi, though speeds can be slow in rural areas. Farmhouses and homestays may not have Wi-Fi at all.
